Is Couple Skydiving Possible
Skydiving Information

Wanna know if couples can skydive together? The short answer is yes–licensed solo skydivers do it all the time! Skydiving couples are in no short supply on the world’s dropzones, as love and freefall go hand-in-hand. If you’re a first-timer planning a skydive for a date, however, the answer is a little more complicated. Couple skydiving for first-timers doesn’t really exist…but y’know what? There are still a couple of different ways you can take to the skies with the apple of your eye. Here’s what you need to know.
WHY YOU CAN’T DO A COUPLES SKYDIVE FOR YOUR FIRST JUMP
A tandem skydive is a couples skydive of a sort: It involves two people, jumping together and descending under the same parachute. However, it’s quite unlikely that you’ll be in love with your tandem instructor (at least at first). There’s no such thing as a tandem instructor taking two people for a tandem skydive; it just doesn’t happen, for reasons encompassing everything from logistics to maximum equipment loads to aerodynamics.
If you are tandem skydiving as a date you will (obviously) be strapped securely to another human for the duration of the process. You’ll receive your ground training together, and you’ll share the titillating plane ride up to altitude. You and your loved one will be separated in free fall by enough distance that communicating during the skydive will be impossible. You two lovebirds can expect to land at about the same time and be gloriously reunited in a flurry of high-fives. You can (and definitely will) bond over the experience–and will still bear witness to and bask together in the skydiving afterglow. Which is awesome. Seriously, it is.
HOW YOU ACTUALLY CAN SKYDIVE WITH YOUR GIRLFRIEND (OR SKYDIVE WITH YOUR BOYFRIEND)
If you’re keen to be half of a skydiving couple, hooray: You can! Once you get your licenses you can have a ton of fun together in the air–and enjoy a tight network of great friendships with amazing people. In fact, we can’t think of anything more romantic (not to mention flat-out cooler) than a pair of lovebirds earning their skydiving licenses together.
To nail down the accomplishment of an A-license with your honey, be prepared to get serious. An A-license requires at least 25 jumps and a lot of commitment. Earning a skydiving A-license can take anything from weeks to months to earn, as it depends on weather and the student’s highly individual speed of progression through the program. But hey–at least you’ll have a great study buddy!
The upshot is simple: It is absolutely a possibility to do tandem skydives on the same plane. If you want to truly jump together, however, you’ll have to become a licensed skydiver first.
