It can be argued that Skydive Coastal Carolinas have two of the most beautiful planes in the skydiving world! Why? Because we love to paint in our paint shop and make our planes more unique than any other in the industry! As you can imagine, there’s a lot of work that goes into making them look this good!

PRETTY PLANE FACTS:

It normally takes 150 man hours to strip and paint a Cessna 182. Of course, that’s for a typical paint job, and our planes are far from typical! We take apart our airplanes like no other shop as well. Just the tail of N5914B (pictured) took 70 man hours to paint! We paint one color at a time. After drying, we move on to the next color and back tape all that was painted saving the lines that were just completed…the smaller the lines the longer it takes!! Imagine the details of the parachute…detailed with small spaces and lots of lines! For N5914B, we have over 300 man hours invested in this paint job, plus 12 gallons of paint! The hardest thing about painting an aircraft is getting it ready for paint. Stripping the paint and getting into all the corners and around the rivets is a hard and tedious job. The painting is easy for owner, Brian Strong, due to 40 years of painting planes! Why in the world does Skydive Coastal Carolinas go to so much trouble? Simply put, we are passionate about skydiving and aviation. We know how to make a plane look good…so we try to make ours look the best!

OTHER JUMP PLANE INFO:

  • N5914B is a Cessna 182 with a 235hp O470 engine.
  • N7247E is a Cessna 182 with a P-Ponk engine 275hp with a 3 bladed climb prop.
  • Both planes have wing Extensions of 3 more feet which makes the climb rate much faster!

The hardest thing about painting and aircraft is getting it ready for paint. The painting for me is very easy, maybe because I’ve been doing it for more than 40 years! Stripping the paint off and getting into all the corners and around the rivets is a hard and tedious job.
