What to Expect
From the ground, every skydive has just two parts: the ride up and the ride down. In reality, there are five:
1. Ground School
Before anyone goes anywhere, we make sure everyone’s on the same page.
Skydiving is mind-blowingly awesome. For you to get the full benefit of the experience, it’s important you feel comfortable and confident. Our 30-minute ground school provides an in-depth overview of what to expect and when, and allows time for questions.
Once good to go, you’ll be kitted out with a harness that connects you to your certified instructor and the parachute system.
2. Ride Up
Skydive Coastal Carolinas has three amazing and supremely cool aircraft. When your load is called, you’ll board one of our happy-go-lucky workhorses and climb to your exit altitude. If you opted to get your experience filmed (pro-tip: get the video), the camera will already be rolling.
At altitude, the pilot will give the green light and you and your tandem instructor will prepare to jump into the glorious big blue.
3. Freefall
THIS is the moment you’ve been waiting for, or maybe sweating over. The door will open and you and your instructor will leap into freefall!
For the next 45 to 60 seconds, you’ll fly belly to the earth at 120 mph. The wind resistance will prevent you from the dreaded gut-drop sensation you get with roller coasters. Instead of falling, you’ll soar … blissfully experiencing the closest thing to human flight.
4. Canopy Flight
Around 5,500 feet, your tandem instructor will deploy the parachute. After the rush of freefall, you’ll be amazed at how quiet and peaceful it feels while under canopy.
At this point, you and your instructor will be able to easily communicate. You can talk about what you’ve just experienced, and what’s ahead. You can even steer the canopy if conditions are favorable and you’re keen to try. This is your moment to soak up the incredible views of the Atlantic Ocean and the breathtaking Carolina coastline.
5. Landing
No matter where you land, the procedure is the same. Your instructor will remind you to lift your legs and then, together, you’ll slide to a stop and immediately jump up and celebrate!
If you’ve booked an airport landing, you’ll return to where you started, touching down in the grass beside the runway in clear view of your super excited family and friends.
If you’ve chosen a beach landing, you’ll land directly on the sand in a predetermined area. Your fan club can meet you at the beach, or they can ride in our 12-passenger shuttle from the DZ to watch you land. Head back with us, or stay and play in the sun!
